Dear Parent

SQA EXAM LEAVE 2017

In order to allow pupils and parents to plan ahead in terms of a study timetable, SQA exam leave for this session is outlined below.  It has been informed by the new regulations surrounding Curriculum for Excellence which are now in their fourth year so I have tried to bullet point the arrangements to make them easier to follow.

  • SQA exams start on Tuesday, 2 May.*  (Monday, 1 May is a Bank Holiday.)
  • Blanket exam leave will run from Tuesday 2 May to Friday 2 June inclusive for those pupils who are eligible (ie pupils with a minimum of 3+ National 5s).
  • Pupils sitting fewer than the minimum three National 5 exams will not be entitled to the full exam leave but to two days’ study leave for each exam (ie the day of the exam and the day before).
  • Pupils with no National 5 exams will be expected to attend school throughout the exam leave period.  A programme of lessons and activities will be arranged.  Details of these will follow.
  • The new timetable will start for S1-S5 pupils (as new S2-S6) on Monday 5 June.*
  • All pupils will be back in classes from Monday 5 June onwards.
  • S5>S6 pupils will have their induction programme on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 June.*
  • New S6 pupils will have their work shadowing placement week (12-16 June).*

(* These dates are per the previously issued school calendar.)

As we reach this important time in the lives of our senior pupils, I would encourage all of them to plan their study time carefully and make the most of the opportunities that they have for help and support, both in and outwith classes.  I am sure parents will be playing their part in that help and support.  I would also want to wish exam candidates well and to hope that they secure the results they deserve.

Yours sincerely

Headteacher
