The following is an extract from the Edinburgh news.
Bombs
“The bombs they released in our area were two land mines, suspended from
Parachutes, which silently fell from the sky, giving no warning until they reached
Ground level and exploded.
One bomb fell near Largo place/ Keddie Gardens park, destroying the corner of a
Tenement and killing at least two people, at the same time badly damaging the Town
Hall in Ferry Road (now Leith Library).
Running Parallel with Ballantyne and Largo place is the Water of Leith and theThen Railway embankment. The second bomb fell in the deep embankment, thus Forcing the blast in an upwards direction, had it fallen on more level ground, Ballantyne and other areas would have been levelled to the ground."

My name is Glynn and I am currently a second year pupil at Leith academy.
Since November 2009 I have been working on a project to erect a memorial to our
fallen WW2 former pupils. I have researched 75 names to date and have completed
further research on 15 of the 75 pupils.
The research has been enjoyable but time
consuming. I would like the memorial to in place by the 11th November this year
but feel that getting support from the community to share information would help
progress the project at a quicker pace. This would also allow there to be some ownership
of the project to the local community.
I have met with some historians and relatives
about the memorial but feel that there is much more information we can gain by publicising
our project. Please see below a list of names that further research need’s to be
completed.
