The Diversity Photographic Competition was judged by a
panel of three made up of the Evening News' Dan Phillips (photographer), Gordon Cookson (Multimedia
Technician) and Jackie Beer (School Council).
There were over 350 images submitted
from pupils, parents, staff and members of the local and wider community so it was
far from an easy task to identify the winning photographs in the two sections, which
were ‘Images of Leith’ and ‘Images from Around the World’.
After much deliberation Dale Neish’s entry of a snowy day in Leith Links won the Images of Leith section, with entries from Steven Scott-Taylor
(Swan on Water of Leith), Graham Rae’s son tracing the wiggly line and Pavel Vassin
(S1 pupil – Leith lighthouse) being highly commended in this section.
In the Images from Around the World, former pupil Liam Anderson won this section.
Liam took this photograph during his time in Zambia with South Leith Parish Church
whilst on a fortnight’s trip to build dormitories and a computer laboratory for
the pupils. The other entries by Robyn Adam in S6 (Bulgarian woman), Stuart
McKenzie in S5 (Aurora Borealis over Dundee); Robbie Huxtable’s Tutor Group (London) and Christopher Capaldi’s image of Machu Picchu
were also highly commended.
The winners of both sections will receive an i-pod touch and
coverage of their images in the Evening News. Thank you to everyone for submitting entries and
making this a very competitive and interesting competition and it was an absolute
pleasure to receive so many high quality entries and browse through them all. All
images submitted will be on display in the school throughout the year on our notice
boards in the canteen area so pupils, staff, parents and those visiting the school
can view and appreciate them.
