Craigentinny Music Morning
In June 2009, the Leith Academy Music Department
made an excursion to one of our feeder primary schools, Craigentinny, and provided
them with a morning of music workshops and instrumental taster sessions. The intention
of the morning was to allow the primary pupils to see what music making opportunities
we offer at Leith Academy and to give them a sample of what instruments are available at high school.
The workshops and taster sessions allowed the
primary pupils to listen to and find out about the instruments and also allowed
them to have a go at playing some of the instruments. The workshops were provided
on woodwind, guitar, brass, double bass, bass guitar and singing and were led mainly
by the Leith Academy pupils who all enjoyed sharing their expertise with the primary pupils.
The morning culminated in an informal concert
for the whole school, and featured several primary pupils
themselves! Performances were given by the Chamber Choir, The Brass Ensemble, The
Guitar Ensemble and The LA Folk Group. The music morning was a huge success
and we hope to make this an annual project that is offered to all our associated
primary schools.
